Meet the team: Interview with Xabier Barguilla
Today we are very pleased to introduce you to Xabier Barguilla, our new Software Engineer in the Tech Team and the youngest one in the office ;) He always wanted to play any instrument but now he prefers listen to music. Continue reading to find out more about Xabi!
Your name? (the real one! :)
Xabier Barguilla
Favorite movie?
Knives Out. A great intrigue movie with plenty of small details you will love to watch over and over.
Do you play music?
Not really. But I’ve always wanted to. Since I was a kid, I loved the sound of the guitar and the drums in rock music. By now my musical taste has expanded, so playing any instrument sounds fun but also challenging.
Last book you read?
The Scar, by China Miéville. I find the descriptions and narrations of the author quite original and entertaining.
Do you have any hobbies or favorite sports? (curling is not allowed)
I play basketball in a team and enjoy listening to all kinds of music. From time to time, I go on trips to the mountains or the fields with friends or family.
Tell us a bit more about yourself, how did you get into software development?
I tried out programming as a teenager. Since then I’ve had an interest in Computer Sciences, especially in software and program design.
What do you love about your profession?
The fact that there’s no objective “best solution” to a problem. Different people can approach the same issue, a different way each.
What is your philosophy behind software engineering?
If there is a method created to solve a problem, it can be used somewhere else to solve a similar issue or circumstance. There is no use in rediscovering the wheel.
What brought you to Orvium? What do you like about the product?
I wanted to learn more about software engineering. Orvium encourages researchers to treat science as a community work more than a competition between fellow experts, and I found it really interesting, so I decided to join the team!
Any funny/interesting stories that you can share from your time in Orvium?
As a new recruit I was invited to a networking event with other companies. It was a good insight in the way other businesses interact with Orvium and I felt as part of the team, regardless of my short time in Orvium.
Thank you very much for your answers Xabi!
We love to have you on board and hope you enjoy your time with us at least as much as we do.
With this post now you know a bit more about our team. We hope you enjoyed it and remember to check our previous "meet the team" interview with Leyre Martínez from the Marketing Department.
