Meet the team: Interview with Iñaki

Team Nov 20, 2024

Your name? (the real one! :)

My real name is Iñaki Ijurco González.

Favourite movie?

I can't choose one, but my favorite movies are all of the Harry Potter saga movies. I also love post-apocalyptic films/series.

Do you play music?

Not at the moment, but I have been playing drums for 8-9 years and I have also studied music theory. In these lessons I learned some basics of how to play the piano. I would like to learn to play the guitar too, or improve with the piano. When i was a child i loved rock and pop music, now my musical taste has changed a lot, I love electronic music, but I also listen to other genres.

Last book you read?

I don’t like reading, but this can be because I still haven't found a genre I like yet. Excluding the books I read at secondary school, I remember reading El chico que perdió la cabeza - John Corey Whaley.

Do you have any hobbies or favorite sports? (curling is not allowed)

I used to play basketball professionally until high school, where I was known as the best defender despite being the shortest on the team. Now, I play for fun with friends, alternating between basketball and football, often as a goalkeeper. I also enjoy futsal tournaments, though I haven’t played it during my friends’ winning runs 🙃.

I like to train in the gym, even if the one in my village is a bit old. From time to time I go to different mountains in my area. I’m also a big sports fan and enjoy following my regional football and basketball teams. Lately, I’ve been hooked on a fantasy league with my friends, where I’m currently 4th out of 14.

Tell us a bit more about yourself, how did you get into software development?

Since I was a child I loved computers, consoles, etc.  and I have always been very curious about computers and programming, but this increased thanks to a teacher I had in high school who taught me computer science and always motivated me to learn more things. So when i finished i decided to do Computer Engineering. I preferred to do it here in VItoria and that's why I put it as my first option and now here I am.

What do you love about your profession?

What I love the most about software development is the ability to create solutions that can help people or make their lives easier. I enjoy the problem-solving process and the creativity involved in writing code. It feels rewarding to see something you built come to life and work as intended.

What is your philosophy behind software engineering?

My philosophy is to always keep learning and improving. Technology is constantly evolving, and staying curious is essential. I also believe in writing clean, maintainable code that others can understand and build upon, or at least I try hard to do it. Collaboration and communication are as important as technical skills.

What brought you to Orvium? What do you like about the product?

I joined Orvium as part of an internship with the goal of gaining real-world experience and learning as much as I could in a professional environment. I was excited about the opportunity to work with a team that is passionate about innovation and making a positive impact in the academic world.

Any funny/interesting stories that you can share from your time in Orvium?

After a long and frustrating period of struggling to get good results with our testing, everything finally came together one Friday afternoon. We managed to fix the issue that had been eluding us for weeks, and the whole team felt a massive wave of relief and excitement. It was one of those moments where the collective effort and persistence paid off, and we all felt really proud of the work we’d done.

To celebrate, someone in the team chat kicked off a meme thread about the struggles we’d faced during the debugging process. It quickly escalated into a full-blown meme war about coding disasters, testing woes, and the joy of finally seeing all tests pass. Everyone joined in, sharing their funniest takes on the situation, and the chat was filled with laughter and emojis for over an hour.
