The Evolving Scholar first Orvium community for open science.

One of the main aims of open science is to foster collaboration between scientists and share scientific knowledge widely and unrestrictedly to encourage new advances and the evolution of science and human society. Orvium as a defender of those values, works to make science available and reachable to everyone. So, under these guidelines, individuals can publish their papers freely, but they can also join other communities to publish and read other members' papers.

What are the communities?

Inside the Orvium open access publishing platform, apart from publishing your scientific papers or searching for an article you are interested in, you can be part of a community. Communities can be created by research institutions or research groups. They establish the terms and guidelines on how papers are shared in the community helping members to share their research, find new knowledge and meet new researchers.

Which are the benefits?

These communities have several benefits for users and owners. Apart from sharing and discovering new research, this cluster helps foster new advances in your field. Secondly, it eases user adoption from the same organization or research field, enabling an easier and more fluid interaction between its members. In addition, community owners can establish their own rules and guidelines with the community. Lastly, publishing in an open community will increase your chances of being recognized, improving your impact as a researcher and get rewarded for your valuable contributions.

The Evolving Scholar

The Evolving Scholar (ThES) is the TU Delft community in Orvium publishing platform. Orvium and TU Delft collaborate to make science open and available for everyone. ThES is one of the outcomes of this collaboration. The ultimate goal for ThES is to enable open scientific communication and collaboration between its members to produce high quality research articles.

ThES is an open access, multidisciplinary, open peer review, and community-driven. Open peer review enables users to access review reports and validate the whole process in a transparent way. It is also community-driven, which in combination with open peer review means that members might take part during the publishing process which improves the quality of the final outcome.

As mentioned above, there are some guidelines in ThES must be considered:

  1. To publish a paper, such paper cannot be published before and nor been uploaded in another publisher.
  2. If such paper has been uploaded on a preprint server, the reference must appear in the submission.
  3. References should be provided.
  4. If there are multiple authors, their permission should be provided. Same applies to images.
  5. The code of conduct set by Orvium and TU Delft must be accepted.
  6. Work published under CreativeCommon compatible licenses (CC0, CC-BY, CC BY-ND) and following an Open Peer Review process.

Briefly, communities are open access journals inside Orvium hosted by universities or academic institutions which seek to foster open communication about scientific knowledge. As it is the case of The Evolving Scholar, the multidisciplinary, open access, open peer review and community-driven TU Delft community, where members can upload their work, comment, and find new papers about any topic.
